Trails are packed

Most of the main trails have been packed.  There is still the odd rock showing and some wet spots but we're ahead of last season.

No classic track yet until we get a bit more snow but the skiing is passable.

The ski season has started early this year!! Please be aware that hunting season is ongoing until December 15, 2024 and that means hunters are still active in the Crown land that our PAXC trail network is situated on.
This early ski season overlaps with the end of hunting season, which presents unique challenges for both groups of outdoor enthusiasts. Though access to the ski trails for motorized vehicles is prohibited for safety reasons, PAXC is permitting limited access by snowshoe on the edge of the ski trails (single file) for hunters to access their hunting locations.
Please be respectful of all outdoor enthusiasts sharing the ski trails until the end of hunting season on December 15th.
Remember to be safe and wear bright colours- hunter orange or other fluorescents are highly recommended.

grooming has started

The last sections (backwards) on the green/blue and out around the red trail have been packed.  More grooming is planned when we get more snow and colder weather.

2024/2025 Ski Season Kick Off

Welcome to the start of another ski season at the Forest Lea Trails! I am excited to kick things off as your club president this year. Whether you are a long-time cross country skier or just starting out, the PAXC ski club is all about fostering a love of snow sports (including cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking) and building community through active outdoor living.

As the snow starts to fall, a huge thank you to all the members who volunteered their time this past October to help prepare the many kilometers of trails for us all to enjoy this ski season. Without you, we would not be able to open the trails as early in the season as we do nor would the groomers be able to maintain the trails in as excellent condition as they do. You are appreciated!!

This club thrives because of its members and I encourage everyone to get involved. Whether it's volunteering for an event or race, joining the grooming team, helping out with trail maintenance days, coming out to one of the full-moon skis or simply sharing your passion for skiing - your energy and enthusiasm are what make this club special.

Keep an eye out on our social media channels for activities and updates throughout the ski season. From workshops to full-moon ski gatherings, trail conditions to groomer updates - we'll post updates as soon as we have them available.

If you have not done so already, please consider purchasing a memberships for the 2024/2025 season. Registration is now open on Zone4. Click this link to find out more.

Here's to a fantastic season filled with lots of snow, freshly groomed corduroy, and bluebird days. Let's make the 2024/2025 ski season one to remember!

See you on the trails!

Sunday

The red, blue, green and lit trails were groomed this morning for skate skiing.

Skate conditions are very good to excellent.   The grooming has made the surface soft and easy to ski but fast.  Once you venture past the cabin the trails get better as you get further out.

Saturday

The blue, red, orange and 800m have been groomed for skate this morning.

Trails are very firm but ski-able.  Conditions will be fast but challenging for beginners.

There is the odd rock to avoid but overall coverage is good.

Fresh snow Friday

All trails are groomed today with the fresh snow. You will still see some dirt in the odd spot in the classic track, but the skate lane coverage is good.

Saturday February 10

Trails are ok given the weather.  There is the odd rock or dirt patch exposed but overall good snow coverage.

Saturday, February 03, 2024

Saturday

The Blue and 800m trails got some grooming for skate skiing this morning.   Snow is too hard and thin for a new classic track.

Saturday, January 27, 2024

Saturday

The blue, purple and red, plus 800m loop got one pass of grooming for skating this morning.

Sunday, January 14, 2024

Sunday

There's a new classic track around the red, white and orange trails.  Watch out for rocks in the classic track on the orange and blue return trails.  We need more snow before we trackset again, low snow is hard on the equipment.

All the main trails have been groomed for skating: green, blue, orange, red, white and the inside lit loop.

Pink hills have been packed but are low snow with some rocks and bumps. Yellow is only packed and won't get groomed until there is more snow.

Trails are being groomed this morning

trail conditions

With about 15cm of snow on Tuesday night the near trails were packed. The coverage is good but the trail is bumpy - still not enough snow for a thorough grooming.
